More volunteers are still needed for the Wetland Health Evaluation Program. Residents are invited to experience the living wonder of Eden Prairie's wetlands up close while gathering data on the health of the city's water resources.
According to a news release, "WHEP provides local citizens with a great opportunity to 'get in touch' with the local environment by providing a real hands-on approach to data collection. Residents are asked to study their backyard wetlands through various techniques which will help uncover the health and productivity of the city’s ponds."
Training is offered on the monitoring and testing as well as plant and insect identification -- no experience is necessary. Time commitment is a few hours per week through July, including training, field work and lab work.
Spend time wading through wetlands to collect and identify dragonflies, cattails, sedges and more.
