The city is offering a Pond and Lake Care Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17, at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road.
Find out what to do for your shoreline's health, as well as what the city is doing with some of its wetland-related projects, according to Leslie Stovring, city environmental coordinator.
"If you live near a wetland, pond, lake, this would be for you," she said. "It’s basically could affect anybody."
Stovring said she will discuss projects at Round, Mitchell, Birch Island and Anderson lakes in the city. In addition:
• Discuss the roles of nutrients, fish and wildlife.
• Learn about what types of fertilizer you should use in your yard.
• Learn about native plants and invasive plants.
• Find out how to discourage geese from entering your lawn.
• Learn what the best types of projects are to help improve or maintain the water quality of your pond or lake.
• Find out more about lake and pond projects that will be happening this summer in the city of Eden Prairie.
"Give us your Saturday morning and we will give the inspiration and knowledge to help improve the water quality in nearest pond or lake," a news release said. "Your yard directly influences the nearest lake, creek or wetland. Only you have the power to protect these natural resources."
Theose who pre-register by calling 952-949-8327 or faxing in a form that can be found at www.edenprairie.org [1] will receive breakfast snacks. The first 20 to register will get a free copy of "Blue Thumb for Raingardens."
