As Minnesota and Eden Prairie celebrate their 150th birthdays this year, it’s worth noting that we have one of the country’s pre-eminent state historical societies.

Today, Mark Haidet of the Minnesota Historical Society outlined to the Eden Prairie (A.M.) Rotary Club one of the big projects being undertaken by the society: Minnesota’s Greatest Generation.

Minnesota’s Greatest Generation calls attention to the Minnesotans of the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, including those who lived through the Depression and World War II.

Much of the emphasis of the project so far has been on collecting artifacts from that period and encouraging Minnesotans to assemble oral histories. The society’s Web site, www.mnhs.org [1], has a special “Share Your Story” section that helps people do just that.

A major exhibit with the Greatest Generation theme is expected to debut in 2009 at the Minnesota History Museum.
