It’s not about ‘things’

Spend your life wisely. That was a key message given this morning to Eden Prairie Rotarians by Ross Levin.

He is the author of a book titled “The Wealth Management Index” and a frequent writer/columnist for newspapers and magazines.

Also the founding principal and president of Accredited Investors Inc., Ross reminded the Eden Prairie (A.M.) Rotary Club at its Tuesday morning meeting that money’s only purposes are to be spent or given away.

To put money in perspective with other things, he offered seven principles of spending your life wisely:

1. Take time each day to give thanks and appreciation.

2. Conduct an honest self-assessment. What’s your role in the outcomes you desire?

3. Focus on your strengths.

4. Think more “good than bad” rather than “right or wrong.” Hardly any decision you make is irreversible.

5. It’s not about the money. Again, money is simply a tool we use to buy things – some of which are essential; others not so much.

6. Figure out which little things matter.

7. Give away the things that are most important. Remember, it’s about relationships and experiences, not things.
