The following is a news release from the office of Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-42B, Eden Prairie)
Governor Tim Pawlenty has invited State Representative Erik Paulsen to join him and a delegation of Minnesota business executives on a trade mission to India in October.
Paulsen is a recognized leader in the Minnesota House for enhanced economic and cultural partnerships with India and China.
His knowledge and keen interest in the state's role in the global economy has led to his participation in leadership, economic and educational summits in both India and China. During a recent leadership program in India, Anjula Singh, theMayor of Agra, thanked Paulsen for forging relationships between India and the United States.
"I am honored to participate in this trade mission to India," said Representative Erik Paulsen. "India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and an important and growing partner in our state's economic development with exports up 114 percent during 2001-2005. I look forward to helping continue to position Minnesota as a partner in progress in the 21st century global economy."
The 30-member delegation will explore trade and investment opportunities and make inroads with key Indian and U.S. business organizations.
They will travel to New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai in October for a series of market and industry presentations, networking events, roundtable discussions, and one-on-one business events with potential Indian customers, distributors and partners.
Paulsen has been a strong advocate for initiatives he believes will help Minnesota not only compete but excel in the global economy. He is the chief author of legislation that would provide for Mandarin Chinese in Minnesota schools, and successfully secured funding for an India Center at the University of Minnesota.
Paulsen has also advocated for more rigorous curriculum in science, technology, engineering and math.
"India is the world's largest democracy with 1.1 billion people and a middle-class population of 370 million," said Paulsen. "I am honored the Governor has asked me to play a role in the effort to open markets and create new opportunities for Minnesota businesses."
