Wednesday, the Eden Prairie High School girls tennis team continued its dominating run through the Section 2AA Team Tournament with a 7-0 win over Mankato East and then a 5-2 win over Minnetonka in the section finals.
In defending its section championship, Eden Prairie won 19 of a possible 21 points.
Winners in the Minnetonka match include singles players Rebecca Snyder (6-3, 6-1), Becca Huepel (6-0, 6-1), and MaKenna Borg (6-1, 6-0) as well as doubles teams Kristie Pederson/Anya Ilangarante (6-1, 6-3) and Carly Rothfusz/Laurel Pederson (6-1, 6-1).
Aria Lambert, Minnetonka’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Abby Buxton, Eden Prairie’s No. 1 singles player, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4). Eden Prairie (Alli Croker/Ida Holdahl) also lost at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
In beating Minnetonka, Eden Prairie now advances to the state tournament where they’ll face Edina, winner of nine of the last 10 state championships.
Edina and Eden Prairie ended the season ranked No. 1 and No. 2.
