My recent copy of "Baseball Digest" just came in the mail. I've been getting the magazine since I was 8 and trading White Sox cards for Cubs cards. (And, yes, I am a geek; that goes without saying.)
But, as I was leafing through it, I came to a very interesting ad on the back cover. There, in full color by the way, were three rows of urns. Not just any urns, but "magnificently crafted for the true baseball fan with officially licensed team colors and logos," the ad proclaims.
And in row two, second from the left, was one for the Cubs. For a second, I thought about it, then I laughed. I remembered what I thought the urns actually were when I came across the ad: cookie jars. What made me laugh even harder was the thought of someone waking up in the middle of the night to get a snack and reaching into the jar, which turns out to be, well, the contents in the urn.
But, to each his or her own. See for yourself at www.eternalimage.net [1]. The urns are made by Eternal Image, and available from "your fine local funeral home or professional."
And one more thing. They're "officially licensed" by Major League Baseball. So, yeah, they're the real thing.
