Swim/dive team boasts 16 state meet entries
November 12, 2007 - 11:30am — dan huss
Calling Saturday’s Section 6AA swim meet “miraculous,” Eden Prairie swim coach Dan Tripps couldn’t be more pleased with how his team performed. Tripps’ Eagles finished two to Edina’s one in the team competition, but that wasn’t the story as Eden Prairie boasts a whopping 16 state qualifiers. In addition to swimming state cuts in all three relay races, Eden Prairie swam/dove to the state meet 13 different times. Rachel Bootsma, Katie Bootsma, Claire Ritzen, Jessica Padniewski, and Stephanie Solfelt qualified in two individual events each. Meghan Cummings, Megan Sarahan, and Bryanna Sudman would swim/dive qualifying times/scores as well. Rachel Bootsma placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (57.18) and second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.79). Older sister Katie finished fourth in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.84) and 100-yard backstroke (59.39). Ritzen earned third place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.61) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.15). In addition to winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.01), Padniewski placed seventh while swimming the state standard in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.82). Solfelt finished second in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.81) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.17). Cummings swam the state standard in the 100-yard butterfly (59.81) and Sarahan and Sudman placed two and three in the diving event (top four finishes earn state invites). The state meet is scheduled to take place Thursday through Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
