In a game that lasted just a little longer than two hours (much of the fourth quarter was running time), the Eden Prairie High School football team defeated Chaska 45-0 in its home opener.
The Eagles defeated the Hawks in all phases of the game. They outrushed them 265-87, outpassed them 94-47, and ran nearly twice as many plays (60-35).
“We played fast,” said Eden Prairie Head Coach Mike Grant.
And speed trumps everything else.
Individually, no Eden Prairie running back gained more than 42 yards, but 14 running backs got to carry the ball.
Taylor Grant and Sam Gotham combined to complete 9-13 passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
Rumeal Harris led Eden Prairie’s receivers with six receptions for 59 yards.
The win lifted the No. 1 ranked Eagles record to 2-0. Friday, Eden Prairie hosts Lakeville North (7 p.m.).
