Aquajets win Age Group State Championship

The Aquajets Swim Team swam its way to its first Age Group State Championship on March 7-9 in Rochester. The team scored 3,884.5 points, outpacing its nearest opponent by over 1,300 points. Aquajets had over 65 swimmers from the southwest metro area achieve Minnesota state qualifying times. In addition to the overall award, Age Group awards were captured by the 8 & Under Girls, 8 & Under Boys, 9-10 Girls, 9-10 Boys and 11-12 Girls. An individual record was set by Bryce Boston in the 11-12 Boys 100 butterfly with a time of 0:56.95. Olivia Anderson set two records in the 9-10 Girls division, one in the 50 breaststroke (0:32.32), the other in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.77). Winners of the 9-10 Girls 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays composed of Olivia Anderson, Courtney Evensen, Kaia Grobe and Bre Thorne posted new record times of 1:51.74 and 2:04.50. The 11-12 Girls posted new records in all four of their age group relays. Brooke Evensen, Kendal Jacobus, Emma Paulson and Kira Zubar won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:09.31. Evensen, Carolyn Kane, Paulson and Zubar won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.23. Evensen, Kate Hickey, Jacobus, and Paulson won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:55.87; and Evensen, Jacobus, Paulson and Zubar finished off a clean sweep for the 11-12 Girls by winning the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:46.88. In addition to the six winning relays that posted state records, the 10 & Under Boys 200 freestyle relay of Will Holmgren, Mac Brown, Charlie Markusen and Spencer Sathre were also State Champs. Individual event state champs - Alyssa Phelps in the Girls 8 & Under 50 breaststroke; Toad Lively in the Boys 8 & Under 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, and 50 butterfly; Spencer Sathre in the 9-10 Boys 50 and 100 butterfly; Bre Thorne in the 9-10 Girls 100 butterfly; Olivia Anderson in the 9-10 Girls 50 and 100 breaststroke; and Bryce Boston in the 11-12 Boys 50 and 100 butterfly, 50 and 100 backstroke, and 200 IM. Individual high point award winners - Toad Lively – 1st in 8 & Under Boys, Bre Thorne – 3rd in 9-10 Girls, Kendal Jacobus – 3rd in 11-12 Girls, and Bryce Boston – 2nd in 11-12 Boys.
