Wins TRIG-STAR
Isaac Urbanski, a freshman at Eden Prairie High School, has won the 2008 TRIG-STAR competition held on May 21 at EPHS. Isaac is the son of John and Jennifer Urbanski of Eden Prairie. According to a news release, “the contest was sponsored locally by Matthew Hansen, a land surveyor with SRF Consulting Group, and given under the supervision of Alex Galt and Kristin Lippit, mathematics teachers at EPHS. The TRIG-STAR contest is a mathematics competition where students are tested on their skills in the practical application of trigonometry. The competition involves a timed exercise of solving a set of trigonometric problems that incorporate the use of right triangle formulas and the law of sines and cosines.”
Earns Scholarship
Bethany Lutheran College awarded Peter Krause, of Eden Prairie, a Dr. S.C. Ylvisaker Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is valued at $36,000 over four years and is given annually to five incoming freshmen.
Awarded scholarship to study in Germany
Michelle Haines, an Eden Prairie High School student, has been awarded the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange scholarship to study abroad in Germany for the 2008-2009 school year. According to a news release, she is only one of 250 students from the United States to be granted this scholarship. “Scholarship recipients will depart for Germany this summer and will reside with a volunteer host family for a full year while attending a local high school. In addition to learning the language and culture of Germany, the students will have the opportunity to visit historical sites as well as witness a session of the German Bundestag.”
Receives scholarship
Eden Prairie High School senior Kyle Knutson, is the recipient of this year’s Holasek-Griffiths Scholarship. The scholarship is for $3,500 and is renewable for four years. It is awarded annually by the Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools (FEPS). According to a news release, “the scholarship was created in 2000 by Harold Griffiths who established an endowment in honor of his late wife, Betty Holasek-Griffiths, Eden Prairie High School class of 1947. It is awarded annually to a student who will be majoring in electrical or mechanical engineering, business administration or computer sciences.”
Performed in State Honors Concert
The following students from Eden Prairie performed Saturday, May 31 in the MN Music Teacher's Association (MMTA) Honors Concert at Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota: Colin Robinson, Julia Robinson, Emily Robinson, Grace Rouse, Ella Johnson, Christina Solfelt and Caroline Krause. All are students of Lisa Lungwitz, who maintains a studio in Eden Prairie.
Accepted to U of M, Crookston
Lauren Ferrara, of Eden Prairie, will attend the University of Minnesota, Crookston, beginning in the fall 2008.
Recognized by Breck
Daniel Mokhrari, of Eden Prairie, was recognized by Breck School for leading the class of 2010 with the highest grade-point average. He is co-recipient of the Scholarship Award and received a departmental distinction award from the Science Department.
Tara Mokhtari, of Eden Prairie, was also recognized by Breck. She received a Scholarship Award for leading the class of 2008 with the highest grade point average. She also received a departmental distinction award from the Modern Language Department and Science Department book award.
