Four-hour standoff ends peacefully
Eden Prairie Police responded to a domestic dispute during the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, which turned into a four-hour standoff at a residence on the 9000 block of Hampshire Lane. The stand-off ended when police pushed their way into the residence and arrested a 33-year-old male suspect for making terroristic threats.
The incident started when police received a call close to 1 a.m. Nov. 27. A female victim was being threatened by her husband and had fled the house. When she returned with family members to pick up her children, her husband made threats and she contacted police.
Police negotiators tried to call the suspect, who was believed to be possibly armed, and still inside the home with his two children, ages 1 and 5. At around 5 a.m., the Eden Prairie Police Emergency Response Unit, with aid from Edina and Minnetonka Emergency Response Units, forced its way into the house to make the arrest. Neither child was harmed.
The following incidents were reported by the Eden Prairie Police Department:
BURGLARY
Between Oct. 16 and 20 at Store More Inc., 6870 Washington Ave., someone stole an air compressor valued at $2,350. Also stolen was a $465 flow meter and $1,600 dryer part.
At 12:24 a.m. on Nov. 5 a resident of the 11000 block of Anderson Lakes Parkway noticed a noise on his balcony. The victim saw a male suspect approaching the patio door. The victim grabbed his gun and made eye contact with the suspect, which scared the intruder off. Police were called in and a canine unit followed a scent to a nearby apartment building, but then lost the track.
Between 4 p.m. Oct. 29 and 10 a.m. Nov. 3, someone stole some equipment from a business on 6545 City West Parkway. There was no evidence of forced entry. Stolen equipment included two overhead projectors, a DVD recorder and a digital camera.
Between 12:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and 5:42 p.m. Nov. 15, someone broke into a residence on the 9000 block of Windsor Terrace. The family returned from vacation and found two televisions had been stolen. Suspects threw a rock through the basement glass door to gain entry. The damage to that door totaled $700. The two televisions were valued at $4,000.
