Patricia Claire Goodwin, 71, of Buffalo, has been charged with identity theft and theft by swindle over $35,000 after allegedly defrauding a senior housing cooperative in Eden Prairie out of more than $93,000. According to a criminal complaint, Goodwin worked for a property management company that handled management for a number of senior housing cooperatives including Summerhill Cooperative, located in Eden Prairie.
Through falsifying records and forging signatures over a couple years, she ended up taking more than $93,000 from Summerhill. The annual audit uncovered the fraud after auditors uncovered a discrepancy between checking activity and canceled checks. Police investigator Pauline Sager interviewed Goodwin, who admitted to stealing funds because a gambling addiction. According to records from SMSC Gaming Enterprise, Goodwin made more than $1.7 million in bets between 2001 and 2008.
