The Miller Park train's fate

The Eden Prairie News received the following letter from Julianna Anderson regarding the train at Miller Park: “I’m writing about the changes to Miller Park. Please don’t get rid of the train. You can put ramps on the train, but please don’t get rid of it.”
We asked the city of Eden Prairie’s Parks and Recreation Director, Jay Lotthammer, “What will happen to the train in Miller Park? What are the next steps in the Miller Park playground project?” His response follows:

Habitat keys highest Minnesota pheasant harvest since 1964

Saint Paul, Minn. - Minnesota's 2007-2008 pheasant harvest of 655,000 roosters is the highest-recorded total since 1964, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Pheasants Forever (PF) notes the critical role quality habitat has played in the ring-necked pheasants' resurgence across Minnesota's farm country.


DNR, Local Pheasants Forever Chapters Offer Youths New Hunt

Saint Paul, Minn. - July 17, 2008 - Interested young people can apply by Aug. 15 for a chance to step into the field with an experienced guide this fall and step out carrying pheasants. The Pheasants Forever (PF) first-ever special mentored youth hunt is co-sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and takes place on Oct. 25.


Grace Church car show is tomorrow

Grace Church in Eden Prairie has scheduled its 5th Annual Car Show for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in the Grace Church parking lot. The family event is to feature a collection of vintage and contemporary automobiles and motorcycles. There will also be remote-controlled cars to entertain the kids. The event is free, and lunch will be available for purchase.

Interim Arboretum director specializes in ornamental grasses

A doctor of philosophy in the subject of ornamental grasses and a professor of horticulture at the University of Minnesota, Mary Meyer is now the interim director at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.


State offers award for pollution prevention

The state of Minnesota is accepting applications and nominations for its Governor’s Award Program for Pollution Prevention. Projects that reduce waste and pollution at its source, conserve natural resources, protect groundwater, save energy and practice sustainability are eligible for the award. Applications will be accepted until noon on Aug. 1, 2008.
The release said that the state is accepting nominations in three categories:
