Letters to the editor, July 17

A suggestion
on recycling
In last week’s letters to the editor, Leslie Fuller wondered why the city of Eden Prairie doesn’t provide recycling bins in our city parks. Although I can’t provide the real answer to this question, I have a hunch that the blame is being aimed in the wrong direction. We used to have the opportunity to recycle cans and bottles in our city parks. Whether due to ignorance, laziness, or obstinance, compliance was horrible.

Fare changes

Commuters wait in line at the Eden Prairie SouthWest Transit Station. If the Metropolitan Council approves a transit fare increase of 25 cents, express commuters like those pictured would pay $2.25 for rides during off-peak hours, $3 for rides during peak hours. Metro Mobility riders would see a 50-cent increase. To share your opinion on the issue, click here. To learn more, click here.

Possible fare hike lined up for riders

Despite a looming fare increase, SouthWest Metro Transit hasn’t received a lot of feedback on the issue at this point, notes Len Simich, SouthWest’s chief executive officer.

“It’s still a pretty good value even with a fare increase of 25 to 50 cents, and I think the majority of our customers understand that,” he said.
