College news for Aug. 23 issue

Receive scholarships The following Eden Prairie students received scholarships from the College of Saint Benedict for the 2007-08 academic year: Laura Elizabeth Andersen, daughter of Tony and Ann Andersen and a first-year student at CSB, was awarded a $10,500 President’s Scholarship; Anne Carney, daughter of Greg and Maureen Carney and a first-year student at CSB, was awarded a $9,500 President’s Scholarship; Leah Koskmrl, daughter of Mike and Paula Koshmrl and a first-year student at CSB, was awarded a $9,000 President’s Scholarship; Jackie Turner, daughter of John and Laurie Turner and a first-year student at CSB, was awarded a $9,500 President’s Scholarship; and Amy C. Weum, daughter of Chuck and Laura Weum and a first-year student at CSB, was awarded a $10,000 President’s Scholarship.
Student receives scholarships Jenna Hartkopf, daughter of Michael and Roxane Hartkopf of Eden Prairie, recently received a Helgason Engineering Scholarship in the amount of $525, a Freshman Academic Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and a First Year Textbook Scholarship, which provides for free textbooks for the student’s first year. The North Dakota State University awards are given to incoming first-year students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement. Jenna will enter NDSU this fall and plans to major in mechanical engineering. In high school, she was active in National Honor Society, basketball, band, Women in Technology Club and a church youth group leadership commission.
On dean’s list The following students from Eden Prairie were named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2006-07 academic year: Charles DeBeck, a sophomore majoring in political science; Jennie Hedberg, a junior majoring in nursing; Andrew Kunitz, a senior majoring in history; Jennifer Marsh, a senior majoring in mathematics and economics; Jeffrey Schneider, a sophomore majoring in classics; Sarah Steichen, a junior majoring in dance; David Swanson, a junior majoring in mathematics, French and chemistry; Marie Strampe, a senior majoring in theater; and Amber Johnson, a senior majoring in biology. The dean’s list recognizes St. Olaf students with semester grade point averages of 3.75 or higher on a 4-point scale.
Makes list Jaclyn M. Burkauskas, of Eden Prairie, was recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester dean’s list at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. Trinity students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average to qualify for this honor.
Graduate from Duluth The following students from Eden Prairie were candidates for graduation at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s undergraduate commencement on May 12: Lindsey Anderson, bachelor’s of applied sciences degree, ****** laude, psychology; Christopher Barker, bachelor’s of applied sciences degree, psychology; Brian Copeland, bachelor’s of science degree, mathematics, and bachelor’s of arts degree, ****** laude, philosophy; Travis Dahlke, bachelor’s of science degree, computer science; Timothy Elmer Jr., bachelor’s of business administration degree, finance; Karin Gelschus, bachelor’s of arts degree, English; Emily Hilgeman, bachelor’s of science degree, biochemistry and molecular biology; Toan Anh Le, bachelor’s of science degree, ****** laude, in electrical and computer engineering; Patrick Nelsen, bachelor’s of science degree in electrical and computer engineering; Jeffrey Petrich, bachelor’s of business administration degree, organizational management; Bethany Pumarlo, bachelor’s of arts degree, magna ****** laude, communication; Kessia Schleisman, bachelor’s of business administration degree, health care management; and Timothy Zimmerman, bachelor’s of arts degree, political science.
On dean’s list Julia Callander, daughter of Sylvia Kark, Eden Prairie, and Allan Callander, Minnetonka, and Ben Kraemer, son of Cindy Johnson, Eden Prairie, and John Kraemer, Eden Prairie, have been named to the 2006-07 Lawrence University dean’s list for maintaining a minimum 3.4 grade point average. Callander is a 2003 graduate of Eden Prairie High School; Kraemer is a 2004 graduate of Minnetonka High School.
