This is the sixth year of the Eden Prairie Reads citywide reading program and it’s a fantastic year to join the fun, according to a news release.
“The 2009 book selection is ‘Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace … One School at a Time’ by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin,” the release said. “This non-fiction book describes the author’s experience following his 1993 failed attempt to climb the daunting K2 mountain in Pakistan. The local villagers’ kindness resulted in his promise to return and build a school. Mortensen did more than that. He built 55 schools. This is the story of his promise to the villagers – and to himself.”
Community-wide book discussions and events are planned for March 2009.
“Eden Prairie Reads is a program designed to promote reading, encourage discussion among community members and strive for a new level of connection throughout the Eden Prairie community,” the release said. “Book selection is based on a list of criteria that includes appeal to a broad audience, length of book, availability and themes that will stimulate community discussions.”
