Congressman Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., is accepting applications for the 2009 Congressional Page Program for the fall semester, according to a news release. High school juniors who are at least 16 years of age at the time their appointment begins and have a cumulative grade point average of a “B” or better (“B” is a 3.0 or 80/100) in the five major subjects are eligible to apply. The 2009 fall semester begins on Sunday, Aug. 30, and concludes on Jan. 22, 2010.
“Pages serve an important role in the House of Representatives as support staff,” according to a news release. “They work in Washington, D.C., live in the House Page Residence Hall, study in the House Page School, and work in the house on a variety of official duties, such as delivering correspondence, answering phones, and preparing the House floor for sessions.”
To participate, submit a completed written application by Friday, July 17. “A review committee will evaluate the applications and designate a primary and an alternate candidate to submit to the Speaker of the House and the Page Board with a letter of sponsorship from Congressman Paulsen on July 27,” the release said. All applicants will be notified of their status at that time. Applicants selected to participate in the Page Program will be notified by Paulsen in early August.
