Eden Prairie police nab Richfield bank robber

Quick turnaround of suspect information in a Richfield robbery led to an arrest in Eden Prairie on March 12. The same day that a robbery occurred at a Bremer Bank in Richfield, Eden Prairie police were able to arrest the suspect, Reginald Dewayne Jackson, 31, of Eden Prairie.

Jackson has been charged with aggravated robbery in the first degree.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Citizen Law Enforcement Academy is an 11-week, hands-on academy. Observe and learn about DWI enforcement, narcotics, patrol and K-9 operations, tour the Crime Lab and jail, crime prevention training, and use of force/defensive tactics. Students may participate in a live shoot at an indoor range, according to a news release.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and will be screened for criminal backgrounds. There is no charge to participate.

Eden Prairie Police have found no probable cause for criminal charges in their investigation into the death of Tim Aleshire, who, on Dec. 31, stopped breathing during an incident where he was restrained by staff at Metro Resources in Eden Prairie.

Metro Resources is a state-run facility that offers care for people with developmental disabilities. Aleshire, 27, who had Asperger’s syndrome, schizophrenia and a history of violent behavior, had attacked a Metro Resources employee the morning of Dec. 31, according to the police report.



Level 3 sex offender moves to Chanhassen

A public meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 15, to provide information to the community about a Level III sex offender who has recently moved to Chanhassen, according to a release from the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.

The individual who is identified has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct, which requires registration with law enforcement pursuant to Minnesota Statute 243.166. The Risk Level of III has been assigned to this offender based largely on his potential to reoffend and his previous criminal behavior.

Just hours before the final jurors could have been selected and opening arguments were to begin in the second-degree murder trial of Charles Anthony Maddox Jr., the Scott County Attorney’s Office on Friday filed a pretrial appeal of Judge Jerome Abrams’ decision to allow the defense to present expert testimony about acute stress disorder, which is the first staage of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Jury selection in the second-degree murder trial of Charles Anthony Maddox Jr., 46, started Tuesday in Scott County District Court in Shakopee.

About 60 prospective jurors were led into the courtroom where Judge Jerome Abrams informed them that Maddox has been charged with second-degree murder by the Scott County Attorney’s Office in the death of his 45-year-old wife, Shakopee Valley News reporter Ruth Anne Maddox. Abrams also informed the potential jury members that Maddox has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Minnesotans planning to party for Super Bowl weekend need to make the call for a safe and sober ride as added DWI patrols will be on the roads, according to a release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports during Super Bowl weekends 2006–2008, 1,474 motorists were arrested for DWI. In the same period, alcohol-related crashes accounted for five of seven motorists killed; all five were not buckled up.



Maddox attorney requests change of venue for murder trial

As the date of Charles Anthony Maddox Jr.’s second-degree murder trial nears, his attorney has requested a change of venue, citing “prejudicial publicity” in the case.

In a motion filed Jan. 5, Maddox’s attorney, Frederic Bruno, states that a fair trial cannot be had in Scott County due to media exposure and because the woman Maddox is accused of killing – Ruth Anne Maddox, who was a reporter with Southwest Newspapers – was a “well-known, well-respected and prolific newspaper reporter” in the county.
