Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm so disgusted, I'm at a loss for words. For now. I'll have them by Monday, after I continue to wrestle with what to say. Until then, go to Minnesota Public Radio on the following link, and listen - LISTEN - to what Republican Geoff Michel said on Erik Paulsen's behalf - and, presumably, request, at the State Capital last Wednesday.
As you listen, keep in mind the following definition:
dem·a·gogue -- Pronunciation Key - [dem-uh-gog, -gawg]
noun, verb, -gogued, -gogu·ing.
–noun 1. a person, esp. an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people.
2. (in ancient times) a leader of the people.
–verb (used with object) 3. to treat or manipulate (a political issue) in the manner of a demagogue; obscure or distort with emotionalism, prejudice, etc.
–verb (used without object) 4. to speak or act like a demagogue.
Also, dem·a·gog.
[Origin: 1640–50; < Gk démagōgós a leader of the people, popular leader, equiv. to dêm(os) people + agōgós leading, guiding;
This gutter politicking by Republican Geoff Michel, doing Erik Paulsen's dirty work, is simply unacceptable in civilized society. I'll have more thoughts on this, on Monday.

Putt Putt, why do readers...
Back to page topPutt Putt, why do readers have to wait until Monday? More time for you to consult with the Madia campaign on how to throw more mud?
You've already offered your thesis statement that Republicans are racists and bigots Now what do you have to support that?
You made the charge, now back it up. If you want to admit that you were wrong and apologize, that's okay too.
This gutter politicking by Democrat Putt Putt, doing Madia's dirty work, is simply unacceptable in civilized society.
And BTW, In the past fews days two of Madia's staff members have been caught stealing. One of Madia's attack ads got a "D" and another an "F" - because they were lies. It is the Madia campaign that it dirty.
Bigfoot, the link to...
Back to page topBigfoot, the link to Republican Geoff Michel's disgusting commentary, on behalf and request of Republican Erik Paulsen, is above. You should listen to it.
As far as your bogus claim that the ads came from Team Madia, that only goes to show how out of touch you really are.

Alias Mudthrower...even to the infrequent reader, the mudthrower and his accomplices on this forum are defintely always on the ANGRY SIDE of a disagreement.
That would be you especially Bigfoot. Big what? Ego.
Everyone would like to see you throw your weight around less, and address substance more.
BTW, Paulsen was also given a D- for one of his own ads. Let's be honest, Paulsen is the first to come out with attack ads.

Who is the real Erik anyhow? He's rebranded himself, but his record just can't be wiped out.
"Erik Paulsen's high-priced rebranding that is designed to hide his past as a far-right conservative is even changing the product name. In his not-ready-for-prime-time TV ad, Paulsen is featured in front of a tagline for the "ReBuBlican Party."
"Erik Paulsen's sloppy, error-filled ads show he's just not ready for prime time," said Carrie James, regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "He's spending so much time trying to hide his 14-year record as a far-right Republican that he doesn't even have time for spell check."
The sloppy ad included other mistakes as well. Paulsen failed to actually read the article from the Star Tribune that he cites in the commercial. The article is a semi-satirical astrological "report" describing the competing personalities in the 2005 Minnesota House.
Quoting actual unnamed sources, the article goes on to say:
"The stars say: Paulsen likes to 'debate and argue,' thinks quickly and is impatient with opposition. ‘You're not awfully good at being disagreed with,' the star chart says.
Here's a prediction that doesn't require a star chart: Paulsen's attempts to hide his 14-year record as a far-right Republican in the Minnesota House aren't fooling anybody.
Erik Paulsen's new television commercial misspelled the word "Republican." The television ad features a tagline that says, "Paid for by the National Rebublican Congressional Committee and Friends of Erik Paulsen. Approved by Erik Paulsen." [KARE-11 NBC News, 9/11/08.
Paulsen's TV ad quotes from a semi-satirical article about how partisan and disagreeable Paulsen was in the Minnesota House. The Star Tribune's January 2, 2005 article titled, "A Star-Crossed Session, Astrologers' Amazing Prediction: Conflict at the Capitol!" is a tongue-in-cheek analysis of on-going partisanship in the Minnesota House of Representatives after an election left it almost evenly divided with 68 Republicans and 66 Democrats. The article questions, "How will two evenly matched and contentiously partisan camps ever get the state's business done? ...
In desperation (and in jest) we turn our eyes to the stars."[Star Tribune, 1/2/05] During his time in the Minnesota House, Erik Paulsen voted with the Republicans more than nine times out of ten. As a member of the Minnesota House, Paulsen has voted in lockstep with his political party, siding with the Republican leadership 93 percent of the time on key votes over the past four years.[1] Just like the other Republicans, Paulsen voted against efforts to fight global warming (HF 436, 5/21/07); against legislation to promote stem cell research (SF 100, 5/7/08); and for a bill eliminating health insurance coverage for 24,000 Minnesotans (HF 1422, 4/29/05; MPR). That's no surprise for a politician who spent four years as Republican Majority Leader, whose job was to make sure other House members voted the party line just like him."

Maybe you should go back to cutting and pasting from Sourcewatch or Wikipedia.
You are the only one on this website who's posted anything racist, it's ironic that you would try to join the conversation.

Paulsen Desperate? "The ad...
Back to page topPaulsen Desperate?
"The ad wars are telling: it’s taken all of one advertisement for Third district Republican candidate Erik Paulsen to go negative in the air wars.
In his latest ad, Paulsen attacks DFL opponent Ashwin Madia on taxes, going as far as to say, simply, “Madia means taxes.”
In a few more words, it’s the same tired old Republican talking points and attacks we’ve heard for twenty years. Let’s get one thing straight: educated, engaged voting population is going to look at these issues in context, and recognize that Paulsen is advocating the same tax policies we’ve had for eight catastrophic years, the same policies that have drastically increased our national debt and forced down the strength of our currency.
While Paulsen is going on the desperate attack (what I wouldn’t give for a look at their internal poll numbers), one might wonder what his campaign staff and part-time paid consultants have been up to. Seems that Mike Brodkorb thinks he’s caught a big break and caught a Madia volunteer stealing a Paulsen lawn sign.
But what was Brodkorb doing at the Perkins in Maple Grove? I’m sure Michael doesn’t want me reprinting his entire address, so I’ll leave it at his South Metro hometown of Eagan. The Paulsen campaign headquarters are in Eden Prairie.
Just so we all know what we’re talking about, let’s compare the routes:
Eagan to Eden Prairie Eagan to Maple Grove
(See Diagram)
15 minutes to the Paulsen headquarters in Eden Prairie. At least 40 minutes to the Perkins in Maple Grove.
Put succinctly, what the hell were Michael Brodkorb and his co-worker on the Paulsen campaign doing at the Perkins in Maple Grove? Is this the kind of activity in which a serious congressional candidate wants his campaign staff and self-styled “part-time” consultants engaging?
But again — an out of the way location that just happens to be within a stone’s throw of Madia’s headquarters? Really? Just a happy coincidence?
Were they staking out a lawn sign in an illegal location, and waiting for someone from the Madia headquarters down the street to remove it? I won’t go so far as to accuse Brodkorb and his co-worker of placing the sign, but one does have to wonder why Brodkorb’s video of the incident clearly shows his co-worker wearing a reflective jersey. Very stylish.
Bottom line: Ashwin Madia has the advantage in this race, and Team Paulsen knows it. The desperation shows, in their TV ads and in their overall political hackery."

The fact is that the wife of Madia's Communications director was caught stealing!!!

Back to page topRepublican Erik Paulsen was asked about his surrogate on WCCO this morning; watch and note Paulsen never disavows the bigotry. Link here, and click on "Minn 3rd District Candidate: Erik Paulsen"
Here's the exchange:
Erik doesn't condemn the bigotry of Republican Geoff Michel nor Republican Party Chair Ron Carey.
They spoke on behalf of Paulsen; given the chance to distance himself and condemn the "(Madia's) not like us" bigotry, Paulsen punted.

Back to page topErik Didn't Answer
Didn't answer the question. Not cool!
It's a typical Republican thing, have someone do your dirty work for you. Not respond to the question...
Obama said no to surrogates and 527s.
McCain said no too. But, he has obviously had a difficult time matching his promises with his actions.
Can anbody have been pleased...
Back to page topCan anbody have been pleased after listening to the Geoff Michel press conference? I would love to meet them. I call on Erik Paulsen to condemn the ridiculous message communicated by Geoff Michel and Ron Carey. How low can these guys go? Are the voters supposed to be afraid of Ash because he isn’t just like Geoff & Erik? Come on.
The voters I talk to want their next representative to be passionate about the issues that matter to middle class families:
* The Economy
* Education
* Taxes
* Affordable Health Care
* Iraq
* Working together to repair our country
Ashwin Madia: Ready to Lead
Yes Different... Consider...
Back to page topYes Different...
Consider Paulsen's ad. No question that the ad was meant to differentiate himself as the candidate with "apple-pie" acceptability, mainstream lifestyle, better than best, moral precepts and all that conveys...
Of course the irony is that he ACTUALLY doesn't represent those necessities, that Americans need and want.
He votes against them. Behind the facade is a complicated agenda that undercuts the values most of us share.
Here I thought Erik would...
Back to page topHere I thought Erik would denounce the Michel press conference... until I read THIS in the Paulsen for Congress Newsletter:
Speaking of records, Sen. Geoff Michel spoke out this week about my extensive ties to the Third District and contrasted them to Mr. Madia's. "When Congressman Ramstad announced his retirement Erik Paulsen called friends and family to talk about his decision to run to succeed him. But apparently Ashwin Madia called a moving van," said Sen. Michel.
Erik has decided to brag about Geoff Michel moronic message, suggesting that Ashwin is not "one of us". That shows he is in lockstep with the GOP chair Ron Carey and Geoff Michel.
Team Madia can only smile...
