I have been studying phenomena of ghosts for over 25 years; I have been hunting ghost for over 10 of these years. I still cannot say my any means that I am an expert, truthfully no one can. There is still so much to be discovered and so many questions that have yet to be answered. The closest anyone can say is we have X amount of years studying ghost.
Most of what I learned was back in New York. I believe people in New York State have been more open to the idea of ghosts for quite some time. Landmarks are very proud to say, “It is believed to be haunted” or “A spirit has been spotted” Fort Niagara quickly comes to mind. Ever since I was a kid they have talked about the ghost by the well. One time I took my 2 year old nephew and his dad to the fort. As we stood on the high bank wall looking out over the layout of the fort, my nephew started yelling, “Look at that big doggie!” and started pointing to an area in the courtyard. We looked where he pointed but there was nothing there that we could see. When we asked him where is the doggie he became quite adamant in the fact he saw this huge “doggie” kept pointing to where it was. I believe what he really saw was a horse, but being so young and a city boy he has never saw a horse so he called it a doggie.
Work place conversations or even going to a cafeteria you over hear conversations from people talking about their ghost they have in the house, or a strange photo they took. I remember when Karen sat next to me one day. “Want to see a photo of my kids?” And she showed me a photo of her children sitting on the porch steps. As I looked at the photo, I saw an old lady standing inside the house by the screen door. “Who’s that in the doorway? Your grandmother?” I asked her. “No that’s our ghost. She shows up every so often in our photos” she would say in a mater-of-fact tone.
I can’t say that Buffalo is more haunted then the rest of the states; it’s just that the attitude to the supernatural is different.
When I moved here to Minnesota, I fell in love with the state. I also fell in love with the people in Minnesota. They have a warm heart, and are friendly and excepting of outsiders. They had made me feel very welcomed and I found that I am not so home sick as I thought I would be. I was very happy to make Minnesota my home, and I cannot think of living anywhere else. I even got use to the –30 winter temperatures (well not completely, but it’s a small price to pay to live here)
There is one thing I don’t understand is some peoples stanch reluctance to accept that ghost are among them. Even with the various ghost hunting shows that are showing on the tv now a days, many are unmoving in their beliefs that there are no ghosts and if you see or hear something strange then there is a rest home in a near by city just waiting for you. For some people considering something other then mental illness is not an option. I do respect other people’s beliefs and I really am not writing my stories to sway anyone to my way of thinking. My stories are for the people who are more open to the idea of ghosts and like to read true ghost stories. Not all the locations that I have been to have spirits dwelling in them. A number of locations have an extremely high EMF reading. …see story… http://www.jordannews.com/community/kathy-ghost-hunter/electromagnetic-f...
Once this problem is taken care of and the person’s body has a chance to heal, the haunting they had experienced should go away.
I often wonder is Ignorance really Bliss? Saying things like… there are no such things, it’s all in the mind, I did not see that. Perhaps it is better to keep your head in the sand so to speak. Knowing the things that I do can be overwhelming at times as well as heart breaking.
It is frustrating finding a haunted location and not being able to perform experiments that will answer some questions because the people are not open to the idea that there are ghosts there. It’s heart breaking to hear some people labeling spirits that are lost as evil, or the devil because for some reason they missed the time when they could go into the light. These spirits are people just like us. Some good, some bad, some are just innocent children.
When I get my calls, I usually hear, “I just want to know that I am not crazy.” When we go to the people’s homes or businesses, we are as discreet as possible. We look like we are friends coming for a visit.
I have gotten e mails from people telling me off about charging for this. I have to say. We have driven as far as Worthington, (many times we travel 100 miles or more to locations) having to spend a night at a B+B at times, spent hours and days going over the information we have gotten. Even with all of this we have never charged anything for doing this. All this cost comes out of our pocket. We do accept donations from people. And people have been very kind, it is not always money we receive, people are upgrading all the time and they no longer use their old cameras or computers or no longer use their tape recorders and at times they will offer these to us. These items are gratefully accepted and will be put to good use.
I ask you to keep an open mind when it comes to ghosts. Don’t be so quick to break out the strait jacket when you hear someone say something may be wrong with my house. It might be haunted. It may be that the house might have a high EMF reading. Or just maybe, there just might be a spirit lurking in that back bedroom.
