A recent study from the Transportation Research Board came out with the newest national data on commuting. Here is a notable fact from the news release that could relate to suburbs like Eden Prairie.
“From 1990 to 2000, about 64 percent of the growth in commuting in metropolitan areas was from suburb to suburb, while the traditional commute from suburbs to a central city grew by only 14 percent. As more employers move out of cities to be closer to skilled suburban workers, the suburbs now account for the majority of job destinations.”

Anyone out there a commuter who drives to Eden Prairie for work?

Back to page topHave you ever noticed the unabated pursuit of commuting shortcuts?
I commute from Eden Prairie to Shakopee -- against the grain, if you will -- and am amazed at the number of eastbound commuters that are now getting off Hwy. 212 at Lions Tap and heading north on County Road 4 to hit the new Hwy. 312 that current dead-ends there, near Miller Park.
I'm traveling the other way, but it's a steady stream of cars heading north on CR 4 in the morning, especially since it was routed south and west of Grace Church.
I suppose that taking this shortcut to new Hwy. 312 helps them avoid all of the stoplights on old Hwy. 212 past Flying Cloud Airport and Eden Prairie Center.
Are there some other commuter shortcuts in Eden Prairie that have recently gained in popularity?

Back to page topA big John Dean primal scream to the traffic flow improvement on Hwy 212. I take 212 past Flying Cloud Airport to Valley View daily during morning and evening rush hour. It can become a quagmire. NOW, it's great! Kudos to whomever studied the traffic. It is much more free flowing and you can actually go thru 3 or 4 intersections without a red light.
