Free speech for high school newspapers

» Read similar stories filed under:

There’s a free speech debate going on at a Minnesota high school. You can read about the story at the Pioneer Press.

The principal and school paper clashed over the printing of a photo that depicts someone tearing the American flag. The photograph shows a scene from a play (not involving a real flag). Instead, according to the story, the paper ended up printing a big blue box on the front that said “Originally a photo was to be placed here, but was censored by the administration."

What do you think about this situation? Did the principal act appropriately?
