It seems that people, especially school-aged children, are learning the hard way that nothing in the digital age is private.
100 EPHS students were reprimanded in one way or another after school officials obtained the photos from various Facebook pages.
With one student stating that he felt obtaining the photos from Facebook pages seemed to be an invasion of privacy, I feel that this was publicly viewable information and these students clearly weren't thinking that anyone with internet access, including school and law enforcement officials, could easily find these photos.
It's common sense that if you don't want something to be seen, don't make it available. Apparently these students are learning that lesson the hard way. Are the punishments being handed out too harsh or not harsh enough?

Back to page topIt was more like 13 students received some sort of reprimand. But, 42 were called in. I can imagine there's a lot of myspace/facebook editing going on with students right now.
William J Toensing: I was...
Back to page topWilliam J Toensing: I was one of 17 in the EPHS class of 1951. On page 44 of our class yearbook, " The Eagle", is a picture of 3 of my classmates drinking or pretending to drink beer in front (south side) of the EP school which is now the administration building. The picture was taken sometime between the fall of 1949 & graduation as my 1940 Chevrolet was also in the picture, & that is when I owned the Chev.
I wonder if school officials are making "a mountain out of a mole hill". That picture was certainly more public to school administration than the Facebook pictures were. I don't recall any comment or action back then about that "beer drinking" picture which this current Facebook incident reminded me of.
