The school district will be talking about a boundary change process and timeline at Tuesday's meeting (Feb. 20).
As to why they are thinking about the changes, it has to do with addressing a racial/socioeconomic imbalance in the populations of different elementary schools. For instance: 40 percent of the student population at Forest Hills is non white. In contrast, Prairie View is at 17 percent.
I am sure all families will be affected by the change. I am unaware of any final decisions being made regarding moving the boundaries, so I cannot say for sure if I will be impacted directly or not.
With regard to the racial/socioeconomic imbalance - I believe that the children who attend Forest Hills all live in the area close to Forest Hills. I don't believe that the district is purposely making this a racially imbalanced school.

"Forest Hills will soon be named 'racially identifiable'by the State because the demographics of its student population are so different from our other schools. If we re-draw boundaries, we can create a better balance among our schools and create an even more optimal learning environment for all students."
So, it's not that the district will get penalized for having a "racially identifiable" school. It just has to some up with some plan to rectify the situation.
