The Nine Mile Creek Watershed District Board had originally approved a plan to draw down northwest Anderson and southwest Anderson Lakes this fall, letting the sediment freeze over winter. The draw down is a way to kill off curlyleaf pondweed, a non-native species that degrades water quality. The lake would be restored to levels a foot and a half lower than what is currently in place.
However, residents near Anderson Lakes raised a number of concerns with the project and a second public hearing was held last Wednesday to address concerns. An environmental assessment worksheet process is underway to look at this project. Board members will hear comments on the EAW at their July 18 meeting. A decision as to whether to do the draw down, chemically treat the lakes or do nothing will likely occur at the Aug. 15 meeting of the Watershed District Board.
Attached is a petition offered by the residents of the neighborhoods around Anderson Lakes.
