I feel the city of Eden Prairie should purchase the golf course and open it to the public. Other cities have successfully done this and the courses have been turning a profit for several years. Eden Prairie method of growth has always been 'If we have 20 square feet of open land, build on it'. This philosphy will turn Eden Prairie into a concrete jungle and add to more traffic congestion and anguish. Having a city owned golf course would guarantee that at least a small amount of open scenic land would remain pristine within Eden Prairie.

Back to page topBeing new to EP (providing a kind of "outsider's" perspective), I can certainly understand what John is getting at. It's obvious that this area was a sort of "Eden Prairie" with forested bluffs overlooking fields of native grasses not all that long ago. Judging by the newness of most structures I see here, it looks as though just when we were being preached at the loudest by conservationists to save our remaining open spaces and wildlife habitat (over the last few decades), the Babbitts of this area were doing all they could -- as quickly and lucratively as they could -- to gobble-up every last parcel of green and turn it into John's "concrete jungle." Maintaining the golf course, although not exactly conserving "natural space," at least would keep the space "green."
In the mean time, maybe the EP city council should consider changing the name of our community. They could take suggestions from readers of this forum. Anyone?
