I'm creating this topic in response to a off-topic discussion that started in another thread. The question raised there was whether the Republican Party in particular is welcoming toward internal dissent.
I'd like to make the discussion broader than that, though. The more general problem, I think, is how any political party manages dissent. Do dissenting voices get drowned out so that only the extremes are represented in party platforms and candidates?
I'd be most interested in actual, personal examples...

We've heard this before right on this web site. Disagree and you're unpatriotic. The comparison to dictatorial regimes, those who want to silence any opposing opinion, is stunning..all of us who disagree with the local Republican henchmen, are put under the rigors of blame and shame for criticizing their chosen leaders from McCain and Palin to Phil Young and Brad Aho.
When Rep Heather Wilson was challenged to provide evidence that Barack Obama was unpatrotic, she offered “He’s been critical not only of the President but of American policy and hence has kind of a negative view of America in the world.”
No, he has a different view than President Bush and John McCain.

I have a different view, hence, I am unpatriotic. Bigfoot responded to this post of mine "Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy" with a post that's been removed, called, "Do you believe in America."
And the answer is YES I do and that's why I post because I don't want an America that permits vigilante intolerance, swift-boat, hate-filled attacks..Who can forget the silencing techniques and the ruthless cunning of the Bush administration...
The moral is the worst crooks and liars don't always face their judgement on this earth...
