I received a message this week from an online reader who found one of John Mallo's columns on our Web site about Eden Prairie's McClay family, which lost sons in the Civil War and World War I.

Every year, we make a vow to re-invent ourselves through silent resolutions. It's a noble gesture and some of us work very hard to turn those promises into a habit.

Is this a ‘Family Dinner?’
It always sounds so good in the parenting books.
Raising little kids is fun, raising teenagers is a challenge but I don’t think that there’s anything that prepares a parent for the empty nester life, or what it’s like to parent adult children.
I am pretty fortunate in that all my kids have been reasonably good sleepers (taking after their mother, who has been known to sleep through fire engines and the shrieks of a terrified Girl Scout lead
