After all these years, Mr. Case is finally coming out of the closet. How many of you out there have been told by Ron, that he is a card-carrying Republican? Well he finally admits that he is a tax-and-spend, bluer that blue, liberal Democrat.
In a passionate plea to local liberals, as Mr. Case begs for money, he confesses that he is "the only Democrat in the race." (Ms. Butcher might take issue with that).
http://www.sd42blog.com/images/caseletter2.jpg
Case must be broke because he specifically asks for money at least three times. He never once asks for people for their vote.
As Mr. Case begs for money, he complains that "Eden Prairie has been hi-jacked by a right-wing reactionary group on the City Council." In Mr. Case's mind he feels "one of the candidates has loudly been beating the drum for the Republican establishment." He made the same accusations two years ago, when the voters said "yes" to Phil Young and "no" to Ron Case. In truth, it is Mr. Case that has been beating drums. After all, that's about the only thing he can beat.
The most hypocritical part of the Case beg letter is that he never once mentions Dunn Bros. or the futile fight against the airport expansion. Buy why remind people about how you plan raise their taxes, while at the same time desperately asking for a campaign contribution.

When Ron Case approached us,...
Back to page topWhen Ron Case approached us, asking for Republican Party endorsement for Mayor, we told him no -- we don't think he is a fiscal conservative. This is documented both here and here.
He continued to show up for some Republican events hoping that we would eventually like him. Here is a photo of him at the SD42 Republican Fourth of July booth (that is him second from the right).
Once he realized it wasn't going to work out for him and we were planning on endorsing Phil Young for Mayor, he began to denounce us. He and Tyra-Lukens went on a rampage. They suddenly claimed that endorsements are "divisive". His supporters promoted lies that Phil Young was going to neglect core services like police and fire and would stop plowing roads.
They didn't get it. Eden Prairie wanted a fiscally responsible Mayor. In his 12 years on the council, Case voted to raise taxes 10 times.
Fiscal conservatives don't raise taxes every year. Fiscal conservatives use their own money -- not that of taxpayers -- to support hobbies like restoring old barns and running coffee shops.
Case then sent out a disgusting letter warning of dark right wing forces that were descending upon Eden Prairie.
But he and his supporters angrily insisted he was a Republican. I even called him up on the phone and he, once again, insisted he was a Republican.
What makes his latest letter so hilarious is that he now declares that he is "the only Democrat in this race".
Ron Case is a politcal opportunist -- a fake. If he is in a room full of Republicans, he is a Republican. If that doesn't work out for him, then he is a Democrat. When the Democrats get tired of him, then who knows? Maybe the Green Party will be next.
Webmaster, to call Ron Case...
Back to page topWebmaster, to call Ron Case a "political opportunist - a fake", is an understatement. Polarizing, power-mongering, self-serving, political opportunist - and fake, would be more apt. After he was voted off the council in 2006, he also proved that he is a sore loser.
For years Mr. Case has tried to pass himself off as a Republican. As a public school teacher, he has even gone so far as to use parent-teacher conferences as an opportunity to spread this myth. There are other examples of Mr. Case using his classroom as a political platform.
In 2006, Mr. Case sent out a campaign letter in which he attacked his opponent for not having children enrolled in Eden Prairie Schools. This letter was signed by members of the Eden Prairie Teachers Union. While Mr. Case was complaining that the Republicans were supporting his opponent, he was gladly taking any help he could get from the ranks of Education Minnesota - the largest lobbyist group in the state!
Here is what one long time city commissioner has to say about Mr. Case's polarizing effect in 2006.
Case should practice what he preaches
By Randy Foote
Council member Ron Case needs to practice what he preaches. Last week, he had a letter printed in this newspaper and stated, "I will do all that I can do to instill a positive atmosphere of mutual respect among all candidates in every race."
It is no secret that Mr. Case is running for mayor and that Council member Phil Young is also a candidate for mayor. The problem is that Ron Case does not show "mutual respect" to other candidates.
At a council budget workshop meeting this past January, Phil Young was questioning the budget process.
Case was quoted in the summary notes of the meeting as saying "if Young is looking to change the three other council members, then he is under a delusion." That comment shows a great amount of disrespect toward another member of the council. The summary notes show Ron Case's true colors.
Mr. Case needs to demonstrate the respect he claims to have toward others. While he claims he does not want the upcoming campaign to turn negative, Mr. Case has already set the tone for the campaign by being negative toward another candidate.
Bigfoot stated: "After all...
Back to page topBigfoot stated: "After all these years, Mr. Case is finally coming out of the closet."
I beg to differ, albeit only slightly. I'd say that after all these years, Mr. Case finally saw the light and joined all us ex-Republicans in the DFL. I was a card-carrying GOPer, back in the days that the party was called "The Independent-Republican Party of Minnesota." Back in the mid- 1990's, extreme rightwingers took over the party, changed the name to simply "Republican Party of Minnesota", and began to systematically drive out moderate Republicans. This extremism is continued today, as evidenced by Republican Party Chair Ron Carey's race-baiting in Room 125 at the State Capital last Thursday. Ron Carey's race-baiting was only exceeded by Republican Geoff Michel's race-baiting the day before, in the very same room, in the very same State Capital.

If Mr. Case was a Republican, and finally saw the light, I say: "Welcome to the party where ALL people are welcomed."
And I don't care how soon it's been since Ron Case left The Dark Side; I'm just glad Mr. Case is finally in the party that supports ALL people.
Putt Putt, is the Madia...
Back to page topPutt Putt, is the Madia campaign so desperate that they have to play the race card? Senator Michele called Madia a carpetbagger because he is a carpetbagger. In Madia's rebuttal to Michele, he was very careful to avoid using the words "New York" and "Boston."
To refresh your memory, two of Madia's people have been caught stealing and KSTP TV has given Madia an "F' for his campaign lies. The carpetbagger reference was brought up because Madia still refuses to answer questions about his residency.
Onto Ron Case, the tax-and-spend liberal Democrat: Today, Putt Putt posted "If Mr. Case was a Republican, and finally saw the light ..." . Earlier this year Putt Putt claimed this: Excuse me? Is Phil really trying to claim that Nancy Tyra Lukens, whom I believe is a Republican, and Ron Case, whom I KNOW is a Republican, are "left of center"??!?
http://www.edenprairienews.com/community/forums/back-and-forth/fact-chec...
How do you spin "I know is a Republican" into "If he was a Republican? Does this depend on what your definition of "if" is? Sorry Putt Putt, but you just got caught telling another whopper.
And yes, former council member Case is way left of center.
I'm glad to see you welcome Mr. Case with open arms into the Democratic Party. With his strong record of wasteful spending and voting for higher taxes, he should be a perfect fit for the DFL's Franken/Madia group.
Bigfoot, would Republican...
Back to page topBigfoot, would Republican Geoff Michel have called endorsed Republican candidate Jon Duckstad a carpetbagger?
Are YOU claiming Duckstad is a carpetbagger?
Erik Paulsen claimed, way back when he announced for congress, and I quote:
So, what does Paulsen do, 8 months later?
Hold a press conference, using a surrogate, to fan the flames of blame, division, and partisan spin.
Paulsen must be getting killed in his internal polls, to be going so negative.
Racism has no place in society, and he should be ashamed for the gutless and in-the-gutter attack. He's not; you're not, and that's why Madia left the Republican party. That's why Dillon left the Republican party. That's why I left the Republican party. That's why a whole bunch of people have left the Republican Party.
Your party is the party controlled by - among other things - racists and bigots.
Council Member Duckstad has...
Back to page topCouncil Member Duckstad has lived in Eden Prairie since 2003. Prior to that he lived in St. Paul. http://www.edenprairie.org/vCurrent/live/article.asp?r=3855
Jigar Aswhin Madia moved to the 3rd district (so we are told) only after Rammer announced his retirement. Madia was born in Boston and went to law school in New York. His current campaign support includes East Coast GLBT groups
You probably feel all tingly inside, with the thought of young Ashwin using his East Coast connections to change the legal definition of marriage. Hey, if that's the case, then Madia's your guy - as long as you can stomach the taxes increases he supports.
Putt Putt, making baseless charges of racism and bigotry is low, even for you.
Do you have any proof that Dillon or Madia left the Republican Party because they thought it was "racist"? Or, did you just tell another whopper?
Captain Madia attended Osseo...
Back to page topCaptain Madia attended Osseo High School, and went to the University of Minnesota. His family has continuously lived in the district.
Jon Duckstad moved to Eden Prairie, and shortly thereafter ran for council.
If you think Madia is a carpetbagger, but Duckstad isn't, please explain. I could use the laugh.
Duckstad lived in Eden...
Back to page topDuckstad lived in Eden Praire for three years before running for city council. Do you really think he moved to Eden Prairie from St. Paul just to run for city council?
As far as we know, Captain Whiteflag currently lives in the third district - he moved only there only because there was an open seat for Congress. Where was he living when his law license was suspended????
I know Madia went to Osseo High School (for about 2 years?), because in his TV ad he mentions that, but refers his days at a New York law school, only as "law school". I know many people who attended Osseo High School and none of them sound like Ted Kennedy.
carpetbagger: outsider ; especially : a nonresident or new resident who seeks private gain from an area often by meddling in its business or politics.

Yes, Tommy, "baseless...
Back to page topYes, Tommy, "baseless charges of racism and bigotry" is right. Even your buddy Gavin Sullivan has abandoned you on this one.
You could argue that Geoff Michel's comments are silly or wrong. It is a huge leap in logic to characterize them as racist. The only one who is playing the race card in this campaign is Madia.
Reasonable people will...
Back to page topReasonable people will listen to what Republican Geoff Michel, on behalf and upon request of Republican Erik Paulsen, said, and recognize Michel's comments as the racism and bigotry they are.
Although, I'm not surprised how "he's not one of us" doesn't sound like racism, or bigotry, to you - for the obvious reason.
Minnesota Public Radio thought Michel's commentary, on behalf of Erik Paulsen, so important that they made it available to listen to.
Those that don't want to listen to the whole 17 minutes, can watch a condensed 2 minute version of Republican Party Chair Ron Carey on YouTube, here:

Tommy, I will agree with you...
Back to page topTommy, I will agree with you on this:
In my opinion there are plenty of things to attack Madia on without bringing up the fact that he is an unemployed bum who didn’t live in the district until he discovered the seat was open and lies to voters about his employment status.
Yes it does bother me that we may be electing someone who has never paid a property tax bill in the Third District.
Yes it is concerning that his office doesn’t want people to know where Madia lives or how long he lived there.
Yes, it does bother me that Madia is a dirty campaigner (the latest ad against Erik Paulsen scored an "F" on the KSTP-TV truth test).
But those things are all superficial.
My problem with Madia is that he tells people he is a "fiscal conservative" and a "social moderate". The truth is he is neither.
He is not a social moderate. You cannot name one social issue where he is not aligned with the liberal DFL agenda.
He is not a fiscal conservative. He has never once publicly criticized the DFL either locally or nationally for spending too much. He has never been recognized by any taxpayer advocacy organization – ever – as being a champion of the taxpayers.
I think "reasonable people" would agree: Ashwin Madia wants to go to Washington to make government bigger not smaller.
None of the things that Geoff Michel is talking about matter to me as much as the fact that Madia is a social and fiscal liberal. He is a liberal elitist who thinks he can do better with my money than I can. He has it in for taxpayers.
In my opinion, that is what Erik Paulsen should be focusing his campaign on.
