Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Reschedules Quilt to Remember Display
Cancelled for Mother’s Day Weekend, Set for Father’s Day Weekend
WHAT: A display of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) Quilt to Remember, originally planned for May 9-11, has been rescheduled for Father’s Day weekend, due to unforeseen circumstances at the exhibit venue.
WHEN: New dates: Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14-10am-9pm
Sunday, June 15-11am-6:30pm

WHERE: Mall of America-Macy’s Court, 60 East Broadway, Bloomington, MN

WHY:
• The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is escalating nationwide, with the number of cases expected to triple to 16 million by mid-century. Aging baby boomers are contributing to the rise; age is the greatest risk factor.
• The AFA Quilt to Remember is the nation’s first grand-scale quilt that pays tribute to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses, caregivers and healthcare professionals. The collection currently includes 100 heartfelt panels, measuring a total of 240 feet, contributed by individuals and organizations across the nation.
• The display of the AFA Quilt to Remember at the Mall of America—a stop on its 2008 tour— coincides with Father’s Day weekend. The collection includes moving panels that memorialize fathers, grandfathers and other special relatives, as well as quilts made by residents of Minnesota.
• “You can feel the warmth that emanates from these quilts,” said Eric J. Hall, AFA’s president and chief executive officer. “One by one, and as a whole, the panels speak for real people with this devastating disease, and they speak for families who want to share cherished memories.”
